Cast and extruded sheet
MMA is ideal for polymerisation into acrylic sheet either cast between two plates or transformed into beads, which are then extruded. Acrylic sheet and products have unique properties; exceptional durability, optical clarity and design flexibility.
Castings and embedments
The excellent optical transmission and clarity of our Lucite® acrylic resin makes it the material of choice for trophies, recognition awards and sculptures. It is ideally suited for the creation of unique pieces where objects are suspended in the casting.
Methacrylic Acid is used in polycarboxylates to make freshly prepared cement easier to work with. It reduces the required water content, which increased the strength of the product in use.
Lucite International’s MMA is ideal for mixing with coloured quartz and sands to create the main ingredient for composite sinks. Elvacite® resin may be introduced as a low profile additive to improve the surface characteristics. The high performance properties of MMA give sinks enduring strength, a quality feel as well as excellent aesthetics.
Lucite International has a proven track record in the manufacture and supply of specialty methyl methacrylate based acrylic resins, which provide excellent performance in hard-coated glass separation applications – particularly in a humid environment – where maximum chemical protection is required.
Colacryl® acrylic resins have a controlled molecular weight and particle size making them ideal for creating porous structures – such as moulds for the ceramic industry – where the level of porosity and permeability is critical to performance.
MMA-based processing aids enhance efficiencies during extrusion. This is particularly useful for extruding high quality, stable PVC profiles, such as those used for window and doorframes.
Vinyl ester resins
Methacrylic acid is used in the production of vinyl ester resins, which are used to make vessels suitable for aggressive chemical environments. These vessels perform well under exposure to various kinds of acids and caustic materials found on chemical plants and in underground mines.
Anaerobic adhesives cure rapidly to form highly effective coatings or sealants that are tough and have durable bondlines with structural strength. The adhesive is designed for use as a sole attachment device durable enough to be considered as a ‘chemical fastner’. The use of methacrylic acid supports multiple curing methods including UV. UV curing grades of aerobic acrylics yield tough, impact-resistant, structural adhesives with a tensile strength up to 3000psi when joining metal, plastic, glass, ceramics and other substrates. The technology is able to deliver transparent optical adhesives.
